창세기 26 : 9 - 이삭과 아비멜렉
아비멜렉이 이삭을 불러 이르되, 보라, 그녀는 정녕 네 아내이거늘 어찌 네가 이르기를, 그녀는 내 누이라, 하였느냐? 하니 이삭이 그에게 이르되, 내가 이르기를, 그녀로 인해 내가 죽을까 염려하노라, 하였기 때문이라. And Abimelech called Isaac, and said, Behold, of a surety she is thy wife: and how saidst thou, She is my sister? And Isaac said unto him, Because I said, Lest I die for her.

그곳 사람들이 그의 아내에 관하여 그에게 물으매 그가 말하기를, 그녀는 내 누이라, 하였으니 이는 그가, 그녀는 내 아내라, 하기를 두려워하였기 때문이더라. 그가 이르기를, 리브가는 보기에 아름다우므로 그곳 사람들이 그녀로 인해 나를 죽일까 염려하노라, 하였더라. And the men of the place asked him of his wife; and he said, She is my sister: for he feared to say, She is my wife; lest, said he, the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah; because she was fair to look upon.
